And it's also gained popularity around. The first step to make chana masala starts by soaking the chickpeas overnight. Then pressure cooking them until tender. You can cook Homemade Chole or Chana Masala using 16 ingredients and 6 steps. Here is how you cook it.
Ingredients of Homemade Chole or Chana Masala
- It's 3 cup of kabuli chana (soaked overnight).
- You need 4 tsp of oil.
- Prepare 1/2 tsp of cumin seeds.
- It's 2 of onion, finely chopped.
- It's 1 tsp of ginger-garlic paste.
- Prepare 2 of tomatoes, finely chopped.
- It's 3 of green chilly.
- Prepare 1 tbsp of red chilli powder.
- It's 1 tsp of turmeric powder.
- You need 1 tsp of coriander powder.
- It's to taste of salt.
- It's 1 tsp of garam masala.
- It's 2 cups of water.
- Prepare 2 tsp of coriander leaves, finely chopped.
- It's 2 tsp of chole masala (i used MDH).
- Prepare 1/2 tbsp of jeera.
I use a homemade garam masala but you can use any that is aromatic. You can also use readymade chole masala if you have one. This is because homemade chole masala powder is pure, free of adulteration, fresh and made with love! They have a strong aroma and intense flavour When mixed with kabuli chana (chick peas) to make the ever popular North Indian Chole Bhature or for other innovative dishes like Chole Samosa.
Homemade Chole or Chana Masala step by step
- Make sure the kabuli chana is soaked overnight. Now boil the kabuli chana for atleast 5-6 whistles in a pressure cooker. (You can add some salt for boiling).
- In a mixer, separately onion, green chilly. Also separately grind tomato to make paste..
- Now heat oil in frying pan. Add cumin seeds, jeera, onion paste, ginger garlic paste and tomato paste and fry it till it get dried..
- Now add red chilli powder, coriander & turmeric powder, garam masala and chole masala. Saute it well for 4-5 minutes. Add extra oil if required..
- Add the boiled kabuli chana to the pan and mix it well. Add 2 cups of water and let it boil for 5-8 minutes. Make sure water is not completely dried up as we want the gravy to be thick and but very thick..
- Garnish with coriander and serve it with bhature or nan. Enjoy!.
